Home Heating Oil Home Heating Oils - #2 Heating Oil, Blended Fuel, and Kerosene

The 21st Century Energy Group provides 3 types of Home Heating Fuel Oil to our customers. Each fuel oil type is designed for its own purpose and heating oil setup. The type of fuel oil that you require will depend on your heating needs, oil tank location, and heating setup.

#2 Heating Oil

#2 Heating Oil is our most popular product for heating oil and is the standard fuel for most oil heating systems. #2 Heating Oil is not subject to such a stringent refinement process as Kerosene, therefore it is suitable for storage tanks that are located indoors or sheltered from the elements, because if stored outside it will gel in colder temperatures. #2 Heating Oil produces more BTU's than Kerosene and is a cheaper option per gallon. (What is a BTU?)

Blended Heating Fuel

Blended Heating Fuel is an alternative to straight Kerosene in circumstances where the storage tank is not indoors or completely sheltered from the elements, but also is not completely protected from slightly cold temperatures. Blended Heating Fuel is a mix of 50% Kerosene and 50% #2 Heating Oil. This mixture of fuels produces a variation of heating oil that is a cross between the two that can withstand slightly cooler temperatures. This product is normally slightly less expensive than straight Kerosene while producing slightly lower BTU's. (What is a BTU?)

Kerosene is the cleanest heating fuel that we provide. The quality of the fuel is derived from the refinement process in which impurities are removed. Due to this refinement process, Kerosene is superb for tanks that are free-standing outside or in a area where the tank is exposed to the elements because it resists gelling (a state when the fuel becomes so cold that it turns thick and therefore hard to pass through plumbing). Kerosene fuel produces fewer BTU's than #2 Heating Oil. (What is a BTU?)

Indoor Heating Oil Tank Inspections

We are now requiring all indoor heating oil, blended fuel, and kerosene tanks to be visually inspected for leaks or damage that may result in damage or potential damage to the residence or property. For current customers we will inspect your tank during one of the first deliveries at your convenience starting in July of 2015. For new customers we will need to inspect your tank before we can deliver fuel for the first time. (Read More)
